As part of on-going road safety operations in the Dublin region, Gardaí attached to Regional Traffic Division, DMR West, North and South carried out an MAT (Mandatory Alcohol Testing) checkpoint on the N3 dual carriageway in west Dublin near Clonee.
Personnel from Revenue Customs Service and the National Transport Authority also took part in the checkpoint which commenced shortly after midnight and concluded at 3.30am.
During the course of the checkpoint six motorists were arrested by Gardaí for ‘drink driving’ offences and three vehicles were seized for Insurance and Tax related matters. Two vehicles were detained by Revenue Customs Service for VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) matters. A number of fixed payment notices were issued by NTA compliance officers and one unlicensed Taxi driver was also detected.
In total 217 motorists were breath tested during the course of the checkpoint.
