Renewed Appeal - 16th Anniversary on the murder of Raonaid Murray

The 4th of September 2015 is the 16th Anniversary of the brutal murder of 17year old Raonaid Murray.

The Gardai remain fully committed to the investigation into Raonaid’s murder. The Incident Room remains in situ at Dun Laoghaire Garda Station.  The Serious Crime Review Team at NBCI, Garda HQ continue to provide invaluable assistance to the investigation team at Dun Laoghaire.

Raonaid Murray worked at a clothes shop then known as Sally West in Dun Laoghaire Shopping Centre, she left the shop at approximately 9pm on the 3rd September 1999 and went with a friend to Scott’s Public House in Dun Laoghaire. She made arrangements with a friend to go to a Night Club later that night.  She left Scott’s at approximately 11.20pm to go home and change before heading to the Night Club. Her house is about a 15 minute walk from Scott's Public House. Her body was then found at Silchester Crescent in Glenageary at 12.33am, Saturday 4th September 1999, less than 500 yards from her home.

Extensive lines of enquiries have been and continue to be pursued by the investigation team.

Gardai are again renewing their appeal for any information which may assist in their continued investigation.
For the investigation team sixteen years on, two critical aspects of this case are:

1.    Why was Raonaid Murray, a 17 year old teenager murdered?

2.    Who murdered Raonaid?

• Someone has the answers to these questions.

• Someone is protecting the killer.

• It is time for that person(s) to make THE CALL.

• We are asking you to make that call now.

• Your silence has compounded the suffering of the Murray family since the murder of their daughter Raonaid on the 4th September 1999.

Detective Superintendent Kevin Dolan speaking at Dun Laoghaire Garda Station made the following appeal: "Anybody with any information which could assist in identifying a motive for the murder of Raonaid and / or if any person has any doubts about the veracity of an alibi provided, we would appeal for your immediate assistance.  You may be unknowingly shielding a killer.”

Raonaid’s family also appeal to the public for any information which may lead to the arrest of her killer.

The Gardai and Raonaid’s family implore anyone with information to contact the Garda Incident Room at Dun Laoghaire Garda Station, phone 01-6665000 / 6665012 or alternatively the Garda Confidential line at 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

The solving of this murder is of the utmost priority for An Garda Síochána and any information received will be treated with absolute confidentiality.
