As part of an ongoing operation by the Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau, two cars were stopped in Chapelizod Village on the 4th June 2015 shortly after 5pm. Both cars were searched and Gardaí recovered 2 Kilos of Ketamine with an estimated value of approximately €140,000.
Three males, (18, 32 and 36 years), were arrested and are currently being detained at Clondalkin Garda station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 as amended.
Follow up searches were carried out in the Dublin and Kildare regions with the assistance of Gardaí from the Kildare and Dublin West Divisions.
At a Self Storage facility in Straffan, County Kildare, a further 17 kilos of Ketamine was discovered along with other drug trafficking paraphernalia.
The total value of Ketamine seized in this operation is estimated at €1.3 million and represents the largest seizure of this particular synthetic controlled drug in the State to date, and one of the largest this year in Europe.
These operations use advanced analytical and intelligence methods to disrupt criminals and dismantle their networks. Drug seizures play a critical role in targeting the livelihood of criminals and reducing their ability to carry out illegal activities. Drug seizures also help protect communities from the devastating impact of drugs and the associated criminality.
