Gardai in Portlaoise are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the Rathdowney to Abbeyleix Road(R433) on the 12th July 2015.
The collision occurred at approximately 3am at Middlemount, Rathdowney(approx three miles outside Rathdowney). A car collided with roadside sign. The male driver(20 years) and two female(20 & 35 years) passengers were fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene. Their remains have been removed to the mortuary at Portlaoise Hospital. A third male(16 years) passenger was injured in the collision and he was taken to Tullamore General Hospital where his injuries are described as non life threatening.
The road is closed until at least lunchtime in order to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
