An Ongoing operation targeting activities of dissident republicans in the border region is currently in place involving members of the Special Detective Unit assisted by local Gardaí and members of the Garda Dog Unit. As part of this operation searches are being conducted of a dwelling and lands at Jenkinstown, Co. Louth.
During the course of the searches to date a number of items suspected of being component parts of Improvised Explosive Devices have been located. As a result of this find the services of the Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team have been requested and are in attendance. A quantity of ammunition has also been recovered.
Searches are ongoing.
