Males charged - Drug seizure and arrests at Newbridge, Kildare on the 9/12/15

Gardaí have charged two men, aged 34 and 40 years, in connection with a drugs seizure which occurred at Newlands Cross, Dublin on Wednesday evening 9th December 2015.

Both men are due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court this morning, Friday 11th December 2015 at 10.30am.
 
A third man, 22 years, also arrested in connection with this investigation has been released from Garda custody without charge. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

As part of an ongoing investigation targeting drug trafficking activities in the Kildare Division conducted by officers from Kildare supported by the Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau, three males aged 40, 34 and 22, were arrested when two cars were stopped and searched at Newlands Cross at approximately 7.30pm yesterday evening the 9th of December 2015.


A large quantity of  heroin (pending analysis) with an estimated street value of €600,000 was seized and the males were arrested for drug trafficking offences and currently remain in custody at Clondalkin Garda station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 as amended.

 
A number of follow up searches were conducted in the Kildare and Dublin areas resulting in quantities of cocaine and cannabis herb (both pending analysis) also being recovered.  At this time, controlled drugs with an estimated street value of €900,000 have been seized in this operation. Investigations are ongoing.
