Firearms and component parts recovered - Dissident republican arrest in Monaghan on the 25/11/15

As a result of an operation targeting dissident republican activity in the border region on 25th November 2015, searches were commenced in the Scotstown area of County Monaghan by members of the Special Detective Unit, the Emergency Response Unit, the Garda Dog Unit and members from the Cavan/Monaghan Divisional search team.

These searches have resulted in the recovery of a number of firearms including AK47 assault rifles, mortars, detonators, detonating cord and other component parts of IED’s. These searches are ongoing.

As part of ongoing operations targeting dissident republician activity in the border region, Gardaí attached to the Special Detective Unit, Crime and Security, the Emergency Response Unit and Gardai from the Cavan/Monaghan Division arrested a male (43years) in the  Scotstown area of Monaghan on Wednesday 25th November 2015.

The man was arrested under the provisions of Section 30 Offences Against the State Act, 1939 as amended and is detained at Carrickmacross Garda Station. Searches and investigations are ongoing.
