Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred in Loughrea Town on the N66, Loughrea - Galway Road, Co Galway this morning, Sunday 20th December 2015 shortly after 5.30am.
A male pedestrian, 28 years, was struck by a car. He was pronounced dead at scene. His body was taken to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, County Galway where a post mortem is to be arranged. The male driver, 19 years, sole occupant of the car, was uninjured.
The road is currently closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions are in place.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, particularly those who may have travelled the N66 Loughrea-Galway Road, through Loughrea Town between 1.30am and 5.30am this morning Sunday 20th December 2015 to contact Loughrea Garda Station on 091 841222, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
