Update - Discovery of a body in Co. Sligo on the 3/8/15

The body of a man that was discovered in Sligo town in the early afternoon of Monday 3rd August, has been identified as 59 year old Martin Kivlehan with an address in Sligo town.

The preliminary results from the post mortem examiniation have been furnished to investigating Gardaí, details of which are not being released for operational reasons. Following the post mortem Gardaí can confirm that Martin Kivlehan died of stab wounds and a murder investigation has commenced.

Investigating Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses who may have been in the vacinity of Holborn Street between 10p.m. on Sunday night, 2nd August and 1p.m. on bank holiday Monday, 3rd August to contact the incident room at Sligo Garda Station 071 - 9157000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

A man and woman remain in garda custody and the investigation continues.

Gardaí in Sligo investigating the discovery of a man’s body in Sligo town on the 3rd August, have arrested two persons last last night 3rd August, 2015.

A man (late 20's) and woman (mid 20's) were arrested in the Sligo town area and are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Sligo Garda Station.

Gardaí in Sligo are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man’s body in Sligo town on the 3rd of August 2015.


The discovery was made shortly after 1pm when Gardaí were called to an apartment on Holborn Street. The man (aged in his late 50s) was pronounced dead at the scene which is currently preserved for a technical and forensic examination. The Office of the State Pathologist and the local Coroner have been notified.
The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow.
