Renewed Appeal regarding the Garda investigation into the discovery of partial human remains at Thornton’s Recycling Plant, Killeen Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, on the 31/7/14
The deceased has not yet been identified. The investigation team at Ballyfermot Garda Station is seeking the public’s assistance to identify the remains, and also to identify the location where the remains were disposed of into a skip. Gardaí have established that the remains are those of a European male (Nationality and ethnicity unknown), aged between 25 and 45 years, between 5’ 8” and 6’ in height, and who had surgery to reduce brain swelling following severe traumatic brain injury in the past.
Two of the lines of enquiry being pursued relate to the presence of red franking ink ribbon, and acetic acid on the remains. The ink ribbon is that used in a SM 26 Franking Machine. The remnants of a spool of this ink ribbon were found amongst other material adjacent to the remains. The Post Mortem examination has determined that the human remains are contaminated with acetic acid. This chemical is widely used domestically as in vinegar and food preservatives, and industrially as in textile printing, dyes, photographic chemicals, pesticides, rubber and plastics. Acetic acid is a toxic chemical with a pungent smell.
An appeal was made on Crimecall (RTE TV 1) on the 22/9/14
