Murder Investigation - Discovery of human remains in Kells, Co. Meath on the 11/9/14

Gardaí have confirmed that the body discovered at Oristown Bog near Kells on 11/9/14 is that of Gerard Daly reported missing on the 29th June 2011.

The Post Mortem has been completed at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan but for operational reasons we are not releasing details at this stage.
 

A man in his 50’s was arrested on the 11th March 2013 in connection with this investigation and was detained at Carrickmacross Garda Station under the Provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984. He was released on the 12th March 2013 without charge.

Gardaí are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the discovery of human remains in Kells, Co. Meath.

The discovery was made during excavation work at Oristown Bog near Kells on Thursday (11/9/2014). The remains were removed to the mortuary at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan, where a post-mortem examination was carried out by the State Pathologist Dr. Cassidy yesterday (12/9/2014).
 

The remains are that of a male and Gardaí are awaiting the results of DNA analysis as the process of identifying the deceased continues.

 
A burnt out shell of a motor car was also recovered at the scene. It’s understood the car was reported stolen in the Kells area in 2003.
 

A technical and forensic examination at the scene has concluded.
