Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occured in the townland of Cloonfree, Strokestown, Co. Roscommon at 1.30p.m. yesterday afternoon Monday 1st September, 2014. The collision involved four cars and a truck.
A woman in her 70's, the driver of a car, was removed to University College Hospital Galway and she died later in the afternoon. Her male passenger, mid 70s, was removed to UCHG with minor injuries. The male driver of the truck, early 40s, was taken to Sligo Hospital with minor injuries. The male driver (mid 30s) of the third car was removed to Mullingar Hospital, along with his female passenger (early 30s) with minor injuries. The occupants of the third car, female driver 70 years and her female passenger, 65 years, were not injured. The female driver of the fifth car, and her three passengers were not injured.
The road in the area was closed to facilitate the Garda forensic collision investigators and has now reopened.
