The Garda Siochana wish to advise road users that it is anticipated traffic disruptions and delays will occur along the following roads in North Cork and County Limerick, from 9.30am on Tuesday, 6th May 2014. The operation will take most of the day. This is due to the transportation of an abnormal load from Kilmallock to Aughinish Island (near Foynes), Co. Limerick.
Road users are advised that delays and disruptions will occur along the following routes: -
R.515 - from Kilmallock to Charleville.
N20 - from Charleville to O’Rourke’s Cross.
R.518 & R.520 - from O’Rourke’s Cross to Newcastle West.
R.521 - from Newcastle West to Shanagolden.
N.69 - from Shanagolden to Aughinish Island.
The Garda Síochána is requesting that all road users exercise caution and patience when travelling along the planned route when the convoy is present.
Members of the Garda Siochana will be escorting this abnormal load while travelling on public roads, and we are advising road users, if possible, to avoid travelling along the route while the convoy is present and use alternative routes.
Due to the characteristics of the roads and the abnormal load, overtaking the convoy by following traffic will not be possible or permitted, except on wide sections of the road when the Gardai will signal to following traffic that it is safe to overtake. In addition, road users can expect Gardai travelling in front of the convoy to either direct them as far onto the left hand side of the road as is possible, or direct them to stop while the convoy passes against them.
