Operation Spire is an initiative that is part of an ongoing strategy by Gardai in Store Street aimed at targeting anti social behaviour and drug dealing on O’Connell Street, Dublin.
This is a follow on from previous initiative on O’Connell Street and is part of an overall strategy to address these problems.
Operation Spire combines high visibility uniform patrols with dedicated covert plainclothes personnel working together with the main objective of targeting drug dealing and anti social behaviour on O’Connell Street. The statistics on relation to the the six week period from 27th January 2014 to 13th March 2014 are outlined below.

It should also be noted that to date over 8,000 non controlled tablets have been surrendered. This relate to Zopiclone and Zimovane tablets. <_o3a_p>
<_o3a_p> So far only three cases have come before the court for hearing and in the three cases convictions were secured. Two of these cases relate to obstruction and one in relation an offence contrary to Section 15 MDA. <_o3a_p><_o3a_p> <_o3a_p>There have been in excess of 3000 incidents including drug searches, obstruction, public order and obstruction.
