Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Co. Westmeath on the 28th June 2014.
At approximately 7.45am a 10-year-old girl and three women (aged in their late 30s - early 40s) were fatally injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a jeep on the N4 at Portnashangan, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies removed to Mullingar General Hospital. The driver of the jeep, a 50-year-old male, was also taken to Mullingar General Hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening.
An examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators is continuing. The road remains closed to traffic and diversions are in place.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them. They are particularly appealing to anyone who may have observed a gold coloured Nissan Almera (03 registered) or a black Kia Sorento jeep (06 registered) travelling on the Mullingar - Edgeworthstown stretch of the N4 between 7am and 7.45am this morning (28/6/2014) to contact them.

Gardaí at Mullingar are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred in the townland of Portnashangan, N4, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath just before 8 a.m. this morning Saturday 28th June 2014.
A car and jeep were in collision at the above location. The male driver of the jeep has been removed to Mullingar General Hospital with minor injuries. Four females (no ages) were in the car and all have been confirmed dead. Their bodies have been taken by ambulance to Mullingar General Hospital.
The section of the N4 road has been closed to facilitate a Garda Forensic Collision examination. Diversions are in place.
