As part of a Metal Theft day of action on the 21st & 22nd May 2014 coordinated by Europol and involving authorities in 20 European countries An Garda Síochána arrested 27 people and searched over 70 premises.
During the course of this operation members of An Garda Síochána attached to the Organised Crime Unit searched a number of premises in Wicklow, Dublin and Cavan and recovered over 1000 stolen beer kegs.
In total 27 people were arrested for a variety of offences including burglary, theft and related matters during this two day operation. A large number of other offences were also detected including breaches of the Road Traffic Acts.
This operation was conducted with the co-operation of the Metal Theft Forum, the, local authorities and other interested stake holders with responsibility for enforcing the legislation in this area.
