Drug seizure and arrest in Killarney, Kerry on the 29/6/14

As part of on-going intelligence-led operations targeting the sale and supply of drugs in the Killarney area, An Garda Síochána have seized cannabis plants.

Gardai from the Killarney District Drug Unit assisted by uniformed officers from Killarney and the Regional Dog Unit conducted a planned search of a house in Muckross, Killarney yesterday evening.

Cannabis plants with an estimated street value of up to €80,000 (pending analysis) were discovered in the house along with drug paraphernalia.

A male in his 20’s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Killarney Garda Station.

These operations use advanced analytical and intelligence methods to disrupt criminals and dismantle their networks. Drug seizures play a critical role in targeting the livelihood of criminals and reducing their ability to carry out illegal activities. Drug seizures also help protect communities from the devastating impact of drugs and the associated criminality.
