Update - Drug seizure and arrest in Co. Roscommon on the 26/8/14

A 25-year-old male is expected to appear before a sitting of Carrick-on-Shannon District Court at 2:00p.m. this afternoon (27/8/2014).

He was charged by Gardai investigating the discovery of cannabis plants at a house in Ballynsheglish near Castlerea yesterday evening (26/8/2014). Previous press release below refers.

Gardaí have seized cannabis plants and arrested a male as part of an ongoing operation targeting the cultivation of cannabis in the Roscommon/Longford areas.

The discovery was made during a planned search at a house in Ballynsheglish, near Castlerea yesterday evening (26/8/2014). In excess of 100 cannabis plants at various stages of growth, with an estimated street value of €80,000 (pending analysis), were seized. The house had been extensively adapted for the purpose of cannabis cultivation.

A 25-year-old male was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Roscommon Garda Station. A technical examination of the scene is continuing and the investigation is ongoing.
