Gardaí received a 999 call to our Communications Centre in Harcourt Square at approximately 11p.m. last night, Tuesday 19th August 2014.
This 999 call indicated a man had been shot at the Old Pound, Boherboy, Saggart, County Dublin.
Garda units from Tallaght and Clondalkin responded to the incident including the Garda Air Support Unit.
Gardaí discovered a male, Andy Connors (mid 40s) had been shot a number of times in the upper body. The members immediately rendered first aid pending the arrival of an ambulance.
Mr. Connors was removed by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later at approximately 12 midnight.
Mr. Connors’ wife was in the house along with four of the couple’s children and a niece. These children ages range from 8 to 15 years.
A male wearing a balaclava mask entered the house through an open door. He was armed with a handgun. A number of shots were discharged.
A full technical examination of the scene at Boherboy is currently taking place by the Garda Technical Bureau.
An incident room has been established in Tallaght and Senior Investigation Officer has been appointed.

Gardai wish to seek assistance from anyone who may have observed any unusual activity in or around The Old Pound, Boherboy, Saggart, County Dublin last night, Tuesday 19th August, 2014 in particular between 10pm and 11pm or any person with information and in particular to members of the travelling community who may be in a position to assist the investigation.
It is believed that the victim may have attended a function earlier that evening in Monasterevin. Gardaí request anyone with information contact them at Tallaght Garda Station on 01 - 6666000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111.

Gardaí are investigating a fatal shooting incident which occurred shortly after 11pm on Tuesday, the 19th August 2014 in Saggart Co Dublin.
Gardaí received a call reporting a shooting incident at Botherboy shortly after 11pm last evening 19th August 2014. Garda units responding discovered a man in his 40's who had been shot a number of times in the upper body. The man was removed to Tallaght Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before midnight. A post mortem will be carried out on the body.
The scene at Botherboy, Saggart has been sealed off for a forensic examination which will take place this morning and a Garda investigation is underway.
