Gardaí are investigating a two vehicle fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Ballybannon, County Carlow, this evening Saturday 9th August 2014 at approximately 5pm.
One male, 42 years, was fatally injured. A post mortem is due to take place at Waterford University Hospital in the morning, Sunday 10th August 2014.
Seven other people were injured in the collision. Two males, 33 & 36 years, were air lifted to Waterford University Hospital. Two males, 12 & 33 years and three females, 46, 50 & 80 years, were taken to Saint Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny. Three of the seven are described as being in a serious condition. One male, 46 years, was uninjured.
The road ( Old Bagnelstown-Carlow Road) was closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened.
