As part of an operation targeting the sale and supply of heroin, cannabis and other drugs in Galway City Gardai have made a number of arrests this morning.
The Divisional Drugs Unit at Galway Garda Station have been running an operation in Galway City to target the sale of illegal drugs within the City by street dealers. The operation has been running since August 2013 and was co-ordinated by the Divisional Drugs Unit at Galway with the assistance of the Garda National Drug Unit.
This morning an arrest operation commenced at 7am to arrest and charge offenders detected since last August. 6 individuals have been arrested and are currently detained at Galway Garda Station, further arrests are expected.
Those arrested are scheduled to appear before a special sitting of Galway District Court this Afternoon (time of court not confirmed).
The aim of this operation was to focus the sale of heroin, cannabis and other drugs within the city. A number of local dealers along with other known national dealers were targeted as part of this operation.
