At 9am on the 10th September a walker on the beach at Mornington, Co Meath discovered the body of a man and immediately notified Gardaí on the 999 service.
On arrival at the scene Gardaí discovered the body of a man in his mid 40s on the beach between Lady’s Finger Tower and Mornington Tower. The body appeared to have serious head injuries.
The area was immediately sealed off for a forensic technical examination and the office of the State Pathologist was notified. The body was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital where a post mortem examination was carried out by the State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy. The results of the post mortem examination are not being disclosed at this stage of the investigation.
A murder investigating is underway and an incident room has been set up at Laytown Garda station. Gardaí have identified the man but will not be releasing his name until relatives have been notified. The man is originally from Eastern Europe and is aged in his mid 40s.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the Mornington Beech area between 10pm on Monday 9th and 9am on Tuesday 10th September to contact them. They are also appealing for anyone who notices any altercation, row or unusual incident in Drogheda between 10pm and 9am to contact them at the incident room on 041 981 3320.

Gardai from Laytown are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of a male (40s) found on Mornington Beach, Co. Meath.
The office of the State pathologist has been notified. The body is still at the scene. The area has been sealed off for a Technical examination.
The body was discovered at approx 9.30a.m. this morning Tuesday 10th September, 2013.
