The ‘Supporting Safer Communities’ campaign will be launched by the Garda Commissioner on the morning of Tuesday 24th September 2013 at the Garda Community Relations Bureau stand number 318, Row T, Block 2 at 11 am at The National Ploughing Championships, being held at Ratheniska, Stradbally, Co. Laois.
The Garda Commissioner has designated that the Garda ‘Supporting Safer Communities’ Campaign will take place from Tuesday 24th September 2013 to Tuesday 1st October 2013.
This ‘Supporting Safer Communities’ campaign will primarily focus on Burglary Prevention and Road Safety.
A strong emphasis will be placed on;
Burglary Prevention
Mobile Phone Theft Prevention
Bicycle Theft Prevention
Theft from Vehicles Prevention
The message from the ‘Supporting Safer Communities’ Campaign will be reinforced by organising a number of local and national policing activities during the week. Check with your local Garda Stations for details.
The Garda Commissioner will also formally launch a text alert system.
An Garda Síochána will provide information by text or e-mail to each registered "Community Contact” and they, in turn will forward the information by text or e-mail to all members of their "Community Group”.
Speaking at Garda Headquarters, the Commissioner, Mr Martin Callinan, said:
"This campaign offers An Garda Siochana an excellent opportunity to actively engage and work with all sections of the community. Crime prevention and road safety are everybody’s business. Working together we can all play a part in making our communities and roads safer for everyone".
Garda Community Safety Week is being co-ordinated by Garda Community Relations Bureau, Harcourt Square, Dublin 2.
