On the afternoon of the 11th of September 2013, as a result of an intelligence led operation into organised crime by the Garda National Drugs Unit in conjunction with the Revenue Customs Service, with assistance from Crumlin Detective Unit and the Ballyfermot Drugs Unit a vehicle was searched in Ballymount Industrial Estate, Dublin 12.
Ecstasy tablets (pending analysis) and a quantity of a white powder that is suspected to be a controlled drug were found. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and was detained at Clondalkin Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
A number of follow-up searches were then conducted. One of these searches at an Industrial Unit in Ballymount Industrial Estate, Dublin 12 resulted in the seizure of up to eight (8) different types of controlled drugs to an estimated street value of €800,000 (pending analysis).
The search of the industrial unit also resulted in the seizure of ammunition, a large quantity of forged documents including blank NCT Certificates, insurance certificates, P. 60’s, Travel Passes and other documents. A quantity of photographic equipment was also seized.
A man in his 50’s has been charged and is due to appear before Court No 2, Criminal Courts of Justice this afternoon.
