Operation concerning metal theft

As part of an ongoing Europe wide operation targeting travelling criminals involved in metal theft, Gardaí carried out a 24 hour operation from 7am on Monday 27th May 2013.

This operation involved searches, check points, targeted patrols and a number of arrests. It was carried out with assistance from officials from the Revenue Commissioners, Department of Social Welfare & Social Protection, and local authorities.

 
A nationwide overview of the operation is as follows:

 
 - 72 searches

 - 260 checkpoints

 - 402 targeted patrols 
 

Arising out of the above, twenty-five (25) arrests were made. Out of these:

 
 - One (1) individual pleaded guilty in court on charges of handling

 - Three (3) individuals were charged with theft

 - One (1) individual was charged with handling

 - Three (3) individuals were charged with Burglary under the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act

 - Ten (10) individuals were released pending a file to the DPP

 - Two (2) individuals were released pending a Juvenile liaison office referral

 - Three (3) individuals were charged with offences under Section 112 Road Traffic Acts

 - One (1) individual appeared in court on foot of a bench warrant

 - One (1) individual was charged with offences of obstruction.
