Gardaí at Galway are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Knockdoe, Co Galway (N17) at approximately 2.30am this morning (20/5/13).
A 24 year old male driver of a car (only occupant) was fatally injured when the car he was driving collided with a traffic island at Knockdoe.
His body has been removed to Galway University Hospital where a post mortem examination will take place later today.
The road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are in place.
