As part of an ongoing investigation into organised criminal activity Garda from Co. Louth carried out a search operation in the Castlebellingham area on the 4th April 2013.
During a search at a derelict building gardai recovered as sawn-off shotgun along with a number of cartridges, four viable improvised explosive devices and other material used in the manufacture of explosives. Heroin with an estimated street value of €45,000 (pending analysis) was also seized. The scene was attended and made safe by the members of the Army EOD team. An examination of the scene has been carried out and the devices have been removed for technical and forensic examination.
The investigation is ongoing.
