As part of an ongoing investigation into organised criminal activity in the Dublin area Gardaí from the Organised Crime Unit based AT Harcourt Sq, Dublin 2 stopped and searched two cars on the N4 near Liffey Valley Shopping centre at approximately 8pm last night (24/9/12).
During the course of this search 5 kilos of Heroin (subject to analysis) was discovered. Three people were arrested at the scene ( 41 yr old male, 32 yr old male and a 26 year old female) They were detained under Section 2 Criminal Justice( Drug Trafficking Act ) 1996 at Lucan, Ballyfermot and Clondalkin Garda Stations.
A follow up search was conducted at two houses in Tallaght and Finglas. During the course of the search in Tallaght 4 kilos of Heroin was recovered (subject to analysis). 4 kilos of Cannabis (subject to analysis) was recovered during the search of the premises in Finglas.
The estimated total value of the drugs found is €1.4 million.
Two men have been charged in relation to this investigation and will appear before Blanchardstown District Court tomorrow morning 26/9/12.
The 26 year old female remains in custody.
Investigations are continuing.
