All of the cyclists will be wearing orange cycle jerseys.
The cyclists will depart UCD at 8am and journey along the Stillorgan Dual Carriageway. They will cycle down the east coast through Kilmacanogue, Roundwood, Laragh, Rathdrum, Avoca, Woodenbridge, Arklow, Inch, Gorey, Ballycanew, Ballyedmond, Castlebridge, and into Wexford via Ferrybank. The cyclists will reach Wexford town between 1pm and 6pm on Saturday.
Welcome Home was set up as a registered charity in 1990 to raise funds for Fr. Peter McVerry to enable him to provide accommodation and services for young homeless people in Dublin. Peter McVerry says, "The worst thing about being homeless is not the doorway; it’s knowing that nobody cares.” Young people run away from home because of abuse, violence and neglect. They take drugs like heroin to blot out their difficult past because it is too painful.
All money raised by Welcome Home is used to support the work of The Peter McVerry Trust. The annual Wexford Cycle began in 1990 and this is the 23rd fundraising cycle. The group hopes to raise over a quarter of a million euro. Further details are available on www.welcomehome.ie
