Gardaí have arrested two people in an operation in the Tallaght area last night.
As part of a planned operation targeting criminal activity, Tallaght Gardaí intercepted a car on Killininny Road, Dublin 24 at about 10.15 pm on the 16th May 2012. As Gardaí attempted to stop the car an object was thrown from the vehicle. This object appeared to be an improvised explosive device. Two people, a man and a woman both in their early 20's were arrested at the scene.
The scene was sealed off and an Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were requested. The device was made safe by the EOD team at 11.30pm. It was removed intact by the EOD team to Cathal Brugha Barracks for examination. The device will be examined by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The arrested man is detained at Crumlin and the woman at Sundrive Garda Stations. Both are detained under Section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act 1939.
