Gardaí at Kilkenny are investigating a fatal assault that occurred in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 15th February 2012.
Shortly before 1.30am they received a call to say that a stabbing had occurred in an apartment at Larchfield Court. On arrival at scene 2 men were discovered with stab wounds and were taken to St Lukes hospital where one of them died some time later.
He was 21 years of age. The other man (27 years) remains in hospital where his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
A third man who was in the apartment when Gardaí arrived was arrested and taken to Kilkenny Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
He is 35 years of age.
