Serious Assaults - Witness Appeal Bridewell & Clondalkin

Bridewell Incident-

Sexual Assault at the Chandler Apartments, Arran Quay on the 18th September 2010.

Incident Details:

At approximately 3.00am on the 18th September 2010, a female was walking alone on the North Quays returning to her apartment at the Chandler Apartment Complex, Arran Quay Dublin 7.  She was followed into her apartment complex and was assaulted by a male who knocked her to the ground who inflicted multiple punches and kicks to her body and face.  This male tried to choke the female victim.  She did not lose consciousness.  This male suspect then sexually assaulted this female.   This male suspect made his escape by climbing over the gate in the complex that exits onto Lincoln Lane, Dublin 7.  The victim received facial, arm and leg injuries as a result of this assault.

Description of Suspect:

The female injured party provides the following description of the suspect in this case:
 

• Male

• Late 20’s

• Approx 6 Feet Tall (175cm)

• Light brown hair – possibly shaved

• Fair complexion

• Normal build

• A piercing in his right or left eyebrow with a silver ring inserted
• Clothing : Dark Jacket (possibly leather), Light coloured jeans, dark footwear.

Bridewell Lines of Investigation:

The investigation into this serious sexual assault was conducted at the Bridewell Incident Room under the direction of the Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector McGrath.  The following lines of enquiry were conducted in this case to date -

• House to House Enquiries

• District, Divisional & Regional Checkpoints

• Technical & Forensic examination of the crime scene and all exhibits.

• Medical examinations

• Interviewing of all witnesses

• CCTV collection, viewing and in-depth analysis from 60 separate locations in the vicinity of the crime scene and possible routes to and from the crime scene.

• Comparisons to incidents of a similar modus operandi

• Review of all Sexual Offenders residing in the vicinity of the crime scene

• Examination of all suspect nominations

• This incident was featured on the Crimecall on the 19th October, 2010.

• Fresh Appeal on Crimecall on the 24th April, 2012.

• Forensic comparisons to incidents of a similar modus operandi, resulting in a definite link between this sexual assault and the assault of a female on the 11th September, 2011 at Monastery Walk, Clondalkin, Dublin 22.

• Engagement of both Bridewell and Clondalkin investigation teams in reviewing all aspects of both assaults in light of the forensic link.

Assault on the 11th September 2011 at Monastery  Estate, Clondalkin -

Gardai at Clondalkin are investigating a serious assault of a young woman that occurred adjacent to her home in the Monastery Estate area between 3am – 4am on the 11th September 2011.  The victim had earlier been out with friends in Clondalkin Village.  She walked home with them to Monastery estate where she parted company a short distance from her home.  While walking alone she was passed by a male who had walked up behind her.  She bid this male ‘goodnight’ as he continued on.  As she neared her home she was attacked by a male from behind.  This male grabbed the victim, pushed her to the ground, placed his hand over her mouth and began choking her.  The victim vigorously fought off her attacker, biting him and scraping his face.  The attacker punched the victim a number of times in the face, causing facial injuries. The attacker suddenly stopped and left towards Monastery Road.

Gardai are appealing to the person that the victim bid goodnight to, to come forward as it is believed that he may have information that will assist the investigation.

This male is described as being;

5’10” – 6’1”; 23 – 27yrs old; fair haired; a good physique; spoke with a non-Irish accent; wearing ‘boot-cut’ jeans and a distinctive jacket.

The jacket is described as being;

Electric blue in colour; with white elasticised cuffs collar and waistband; with the collar being extended up to the chin; with a white zip extending the length of the jacket.   

The word ITALIA is emblazoned in square block letters across the back shoulders of the jacket. There is a logo of a soccer world cup trophy in the Italian national colours (green, white and red) beneath the word Italia. This is similar in dimension to a soft drinks can.

It is further described as being similar in material to a type of rain jacket, similar to that worn in the ‘Jersey Shore’ reality TV programme.

Clondalkin Investigation to date:

In excess of 300 jobs; 180 statements, 200 plus people interviewed. House to house; CCTV analysis; Checkpoint canvasses; canvass of hospitals and local surgeries, forensics and Crimecall appeal.

Review of both investigations and follow up enquiries that have arisen from same.

Victim:

Appointed Family Liaison Officer who is in regular contact. The victim has made a full recovery and has returned to a regular lifestyle.
