Gardai in Killorglin investigating the death of James Cahillane of Ardraw, Beufort, Co. Kerry, are appealing to the public for assistance.
His body was discovered on the 19th April at approximately 2 am by members of the fire service responding to a fire at his home. Following a post mortem examination carried out by the Assistant State Pathologist Mr Cahillane was found to have suffered injuries consistent with an assault.
Mr Cahillane was seen in Killorglin on the evening of Wednesday, the 18th April. He finished working at approximately 5.30 pm, did some grocery shopping and withdrew some cash from an ATM. During the evening he visited Sheehan’s and Clifford’s public houses in the town before taking a Taxi to his home at approximately 10.50 pm. Investigating Gardai are appealing to anyone who observed or spoke with Mr Cahillane, or noticed anything suspicious or unusual in vicinity of his home between 5.30 pm on the 18th April and 2 am on the 19th April to contact them.
A technical examination of the house is ongoing, extensive inquiries have been carried out and a incident room established at Killorglin Garda Station.

Gardaí in Killorglin investigating the death of a 58 year old male following a house fire in the town will hold a press conference today, Monday 23rd April.

Following a post mortem examination carried out by the Assistant State Pathologist Margaret Bolster on the body of a 58yr old man discovered in a house at Ardaw, Beaufort, Killorglin, Co Kerry following a fire on the 19th April 2012 an investigation has been launched to examine all the circumstances.
The death is now being treated as suspicious.
Gardai are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or unusual around the townland of Ardaw between 11pm on the 18th and 2am on the 19th April 2012 or anyone who has information which may be helpful are asked to contact the Gardai in Cahirciveen on 066 9473600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
