‘Supporting Safer Communities’ Campaign from the 20 - 27/9/11

The Garda Commissioner has designated that the 8th Garda ‘Supporting Safer Communities’ Campaign will take place from Tuesday the 20th to Tuesday the 27th September 2011.

This campaign will be launched by the Commissioner on the morning of Tuesday, the 20th September 2011 at The National Ploughing Championships, being held at Cardenton, Athy, Co. Kildare.

This ‘Supporting Safer Communities’ campaign will primarily focus on Burglary Prevention and Road Safety.

A particular emphasis will be placed on burglary prevention and reduction and targeted response to burglary regarding locations, times, offenders and victims.

Road safety information will be available to the public at opportunities such as ‘high visibility’ Road Safety checkpoints and at Garda stations.

The message from the ‘Supporting Safer Communities’ Campaign will be reinforced by organising a number of local and national policing activities during the week. Check with your local Garda Stations for details.

Speaking at Garda Headquarters, the Commissioner, Mr Martin Callinan, said:

"This campaign offers an opportunity to actively engage and work with all sections of the community. Crime prevention and road safety are everybody’s business. Working together we can all play a part in making our communities and roads safer for everyone".

Garda Community Safety Week is being co-ordinated by Garda Community Relations and Community Policing Division, Harcourt Square, Dublin 2.

Crime Prevention and Road Safety Leaflets containing simple but effective advice are available on the Garda website www.Garda.ie

The Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan will officially launch the campaign at the Garda stand at 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday, the 20th September 2011.
