This morning, Thursday 24th November 2011, a significant search and arrest operation is underway in Dublin’s North Inner City.
The search and arrest operation is being conducted as part of an ongoing investigation over several months by Gardaí based at Mountjoy Garda station into organised criminality and drug trafficking in the north inner city area of Dublin.
The operation commenced early this morning and a total of 16 residential and 2 business premises have been searched by An Garda Síochána in Dublin.
During the course of these searches 5 men were arrested and are detained at Mountjoy, Store Street, Pearse Street and Whitehall Garda Stations.
Four are detained under Section 50 of The Offences Against The State Act and 1 is detained under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.
Cash and a small amount of cannabis herb were found at one of the search sites.
The search and arrest operation was managed from the Divisional Headquarters at Store Street Garda station and the searches were conducted by local armed and plainclothes units from Mountjoy, Store Street and the Bridewell Garda stations supported by the Organised Crime Unit, Emergency Response Unit, the Garda Dog Unit and the Garda Air Support Unit . Over 100 Gardaí are involved in the operation.
