Gardai investigating a shooting incident in Mayo earlier this evening have this arrested a male aged in his 40's.
He is currently detained at Castlebar Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939.

Gardai at Casltebar are investigating the circumstances of a shooting incident which occurred at Balla, Co. Mayo, on the 31/5/2011
At approximately 18.30 hours a middle aged woman was seriously injured when she was shot by a lone gunman at a shop on Main Street, Balla. She was taken by ambulance to Mayo General Hospital.
The scene has been preserved pending a full technical examination and shotgun used in the incident has been recovered. Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact the incident room at Castlebar Garda station.
