Viable device and ammunition recovered in West Dublin on the 18/7/11 - Update

Two men have been charged in relation to these incidents.

A 31 year old man who was stopped in one of the cars on Ballyfermot Road and a 29 year old man arrested after a search of a house in the Wheatfield area will appear before Criminal Court of Justice, number 4 tomorrow morning, Thursday, the 21st July, at 10.30am.
 

They will be kept in custody until then.
 

The third man arrested (29 years old) was released from custody without charge and a file will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

As part of an ongoing investigation into organised criminal activity members of the Organised Crime Unit at the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation have arrested three men and recovered an explosive device and ammunition.    

On the 18/7/2011 at approx 1120pm members from the Emergency Response Unit stopped and searched two vehicles at Ballyfermot Road, Dublin 10. During the course of the search a suspicious device was recovered. The Army E.O.D team attended the scene and the device, which was deemed to be viable, was made safe and removed for further examination.    

Two men aged in their late 20s and early 30s were arrested at the scene. They are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act 1939, at Ballyfermot Garda Station.    

In a follow up operation a house in the Wheatfield area was searched. During the search a Gardai recovered a large quantity of ammunition and man aged in his late 20's was arrested.    

He is currently detained at Ronanstown Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act 1939
