Gardai in Clonmel are investigating the circumstances of an armed robbery at a Jewellers shop in Clonmel on the 18th July 2011.
The incident occurred at Annerley Jeweller's, O'Connell Street, Clonmel at 11.09am on the 18th July 2011 when two males entered the premises. The first male was in possession of what appeared to be a handgun. The second male had a ruck sack/holdall and was in possession of a hammer. The raiders smashed the glass display cabinet and selected a large quantity of diamond rings and bracelets. The raiders remained on the premises for approximately one minute before exiting the shop via the front door. A large quantity of jewellery was taken in the course of the robbery. The scene was preserved for a technical examination.
Both raiders were of thin/medium build. They were approximately 5'8” to 5'10” in height. They both wore baseball caps, identical navy jackets and green wool gloves. The raiders spoke with eastern European accents.
The raiders made good their escape down Shelmadens Lane onto New Quay where they got into silver Volkswagen Golf.
This vehicle was recovered at Colligan, Dungarvan, approximately 4 kilometres from Dungarvan town on the 18th July 201. The Volkswagen had been taken from Kilkenny the weekend prior to the robbery. The vehicle was subsequently conveyed to Clonmel Garda Station for technical examination.
