Gardai in Sligo are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the R287 at Ballintogher, Co. Sligo.
The collision occurred at approximately 8.45am this morning (7/1/2011) when a motor car left the road and struck a ditch. The driver, a 79 year old male, was taken by ambulance to Sligo General Hospital where he later pronounced dead.
A female passenger aged in her 70s was also taken to Sligo Hospital with minor injuries.
The scene was examined by forensic collision investigators and the road has since re-opened.
