Gardaí at Shannon Airport are investigating an alleged incident which occurred on an Austrian Airlines flight on route from Washington (USA) to Vienna (Austria) this morning 20th August 2011.
The crew of the Austrian Airlines flight alerted authorities in Shannon that an incident had occurred in-flight and requested to land at Shannon. The flight was met on arrival at 7am by members of An Garda Síochána and a 32 year old man (Austrian National) was arrested and detained at Shannon Garda Station under The Air Navigation and Transport Act.
This man is expected to appear before a special sitting of Ennis District Court at 3pm today (20/8/11)
The flight subsequently departed Shannon at 8.47am.
Investigations are continuing.
