Gardaí in Terenure have launched an investigation following the abduction of the wife of a bank official attached to AIB, Clondalkin, from her home in Domville Drive, Templeogue, Dublin 6W.
In the early hours of this morning, 2nd September 2010, the woman was taken from her house in a black Volkswagen Golf motor car with a ’10 D registration number. A demand was made that the bank official obtain a sum of money from the bank and await instructions. It is believed that up to 3 people were involved. At least 1 of these people was armed with a firearm.
During the course of the morning, Gardaí became aware of the incident and a comprehensive response team was put in place involving both local and national units.
Just after 12.45pm this afternoon the woman was released and sought assistance from a local resident in Ballybrew, Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow.
She was uninjured.
An undisclosed sum of money was handed over during the course of this incident.
Gardaí are appealing for information from the public on any activity which they might have seen in the following areas:
1. Domville Drive from 10pm last night 1st September 2010 or at any time over the past number of days.
2. AIB Clondalkin Village this morning 2nd September 2010 from 8am.
3. The Quarry in Ballybrew at any time this morning 2nd September 2010.
4. Unusual or suspicious activity at or around Corkagh Park at any time this morning 2nd September 2010.
Gardaí are also appealing for information on the movement of a black Volkswagen Golf,‘10D registration, that may have been seen on motorways and roads between Templeogue and Enniskerry during the course of this morning.
We are also appealing for information on the movements of a black Nissan Qashqai, ‘08D registration, from 7am this morning between Templeogue, Corkagh Park and AIB Clondalkin.
Both the bank official and his wife have been through a traumatic experience and while we appreciate any assistance that media can give us in appealing for information on this crime, we would ask that they respect the privacy of the individuals involved as far as possible.
