Drug seizures and arrests in Louth on the 7/10/10

As the result of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in Dundalk and Dublin's Northside, 2 vans were stopped and searched in Cocklehill, Blackrock, Dundalk, Louth at approximately 5.30pm this afternoon, the 7/10/10.

The operation was carried out by the Garda National Drugs Unit, Organised Crime Unit and Dundalk Divisional Drugs Unit.

Approximately 38Kgs of cannabis resin was found in one of the vans.

Another vehicle - a car - was stopped nearby resulting in the seizure of a significant amount of cash.

The 3 drivers of the vehicles were arrested and are presently detained at Dundalk and Drogheda Garda Stations under section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act 1996.

They are 63, 32 and 28 years of age.

As part of a follow up investigation 4  searches took place in the Dundalk and Coolock areas.

In one of the Coolock searches a smaller amount of cannabis resin (approx 1Kg) was seized as was another amount of cash.

The potential street value of both seizures is believed to be in excess of €200,000 - subject to analysis.
