Drug seizure and arrest on the M1 at Gormanstown, Meath on the 18/1/10

Following an intelligence led operation carried out by Gardaí from the Divisional Task Force (Santry) and Balbriggan Gardaí, a lorry was stopped on the M1 at Gormanstown, Co. Meath at approximately 7am this morning,18/1/10.

Following a search of the lorry, cannabis resin with an estimated street value (subject to analysis) of €1.2 million was seized. A 45 year old man was arrested and is currently detained in Balbriggan under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.


Superintendent Joe Kelly speaking at Balbriggan Garda Station said today “this is a significant quantity of cannabis, which has been taken off the streets and it demonstrates An Garda Síochána’s commitment to targeting the sale and supply of illegal drugs”.
