Superintendent Tom Curley of Mill St Garda station Galway is renewing an appeal to the public for assistance following an aggravated burglary at a house on Shantalla Road, Galway City, on the night of the 1/1/10 at approx 12.30am. The scene was technically examined and extensive house to house enquiries were carried out.
In a statement earlier today he said that:
"The attack on the fragile 80yr old lady was particularly horrific which lasted for over an hour. It has left this lady traumatised and we are appealing for witnesses to come forward to help us with this investigation"
An incident room has been set up in Galway Garda Station. The areas we are particularly interested in are Cooks Corner, Maunsell Road, St. Mary's Road, Newcastle Road, Henry Street and Dominic Street.
Witnesses who observed or heard anything suspicious are asked to contact Mill Street Garda Station, Galway, on 091-538000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Gardai are appealing to the public for assistance, following aggravated burglary at a house on Shantalla Road, Galway City, on 1/1/10.
The incident occurred at approx. 1230am, when a male entered a house occupied by an 80 year old woman. The lady was assaulted during the course of the burglary, before managing raising the alarm. The culprit fled the scene on foot. He is described as tall, approximately 6’ in height, clean shaven with short dark hair, and aged in his early 20s .
Gardai are appealing to anyone in the vicinity of Shantalla Road between midnight and 1am to contact them.
