Robbery at Post Office in Clane, Kildare on the 14/12/10

Gardaí at Clane are investigating the armed robbery of a Post Office attached to the Londis shop that occurred on Main Street, Clane shortly before 11am this morning, the 14th December 2010.

Two males entered the shop wearing dark clothing and with their faces concealed by balaclavas. One is described as being 6'1'' and the other is described as being a bit shorter.  One of these men was armed with what is believed to be a handgun.

The Post Office itself was accessed when one of the men broke the roof adjacent to the counter and climbed over the panel to get behind the desk.

Two female staff members were on duty but were not injured.

There were customers and staff in the shop as well and none of these people were injured either.

No shots were fired.

The men got away with an undisclosed amount of money (unsubstantial) and got into a red BMW car (00 D registration) that was parked in the laneway beside the shop.  A third man is suspected to have been the driver of the car which left via the Outer Ring Road.

This car was stolen in a burglary in Churchfield, Clane, at 7am this morning.

It was found abandoned in Abbeylands a short time later and is is believed that the 3 men may have transferred to a Black Volkswagen Passat.

Any information on the robbery or any of the associated incidents of where the car was stolen or abandoned to Gardaí at Clane on 045 868262, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
