Appeal - €100 notes in circulation - 15/4/10

Gardai wish to advice members of the public and shop owners, to be on the look out for counterfeit €100 notes.

Gardai are aware that since March 2010 a number of counterfeit €100 notes have been in circulation and presented in retail outlets across the country.

The trend is to purchase a small item with one €100 note and receive approximately €90 in change from the retail outlet.

Gardai are advising members of the public to check the security features of notes and that this particular counterfeit does not contain the physical security thread but a printed one instead.

Gardai are anxious to speak to a man in connection with these incidents. He is described as short in height, of slim build, black hair, sallow skin and has been seen on a number of occasions wearing cream/white trousers and matching short jacket of the same colour.

Any person who comes across these counterfeit €100 notes, or has any information is asked to contact their local Garda station or the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111.
