Traffic arrangements Cork City due to floods

It is necessary to maintain road closures in a number of locations.

Due to the extensive flooding in Cork city and suburbs over the last few days, it necessary to maintain road closures in a number of locations.

Some roads have reopened during this afternoon and at 9 p.m. this evening, Sunday 22nd November, the Carrigrohane Road, the N.22, reopened to all vehicular traffic.

The following roads remain closed and will do so until flood waters have receded and/or repairs have been carried out:-

1.  The R579 from the Carrigrohane Road to Leemount Cross (near the Anglers Rest Bar) remains closed and will be closed for a number of days in order to carry out repairs to the road.

2.  The bridge at the Inniscarra Bar, from the R 618, to Ballincollig, remains closed and will be closed for a number of days in order to carry out repairs to the road near the bridge

3.  The R 618 from Cannon's Cross to the bridge at the Inniscarra Bar is still flooded and traffic cannot pass on this road.

4.  The Lee Road from its junction at Wellington Bridge, to its junction at Morgan's Hill, is flooded and again traffic cannot pass on this road

As a result of these closures all traffic travelling to the City from Coachford, Dripsey and Inniscarra is asked to divert at Cannon's Cross on to the R622 for Cloghroe Upper, turning right onto the R579, for Cloghroe, turning left at the Church onto the R617 and into Blarney, and then using the N.20, the Mallow Road, for city access.

Traffic from Bweeng, Donoughmore and other such areas is also asked to divert in through Blarney and onto the N.20, Mallow Road.

City Diversions.

Due to the partial collapse of the quay wall on Sunday's Well Road, a one way system, northbound is in operation between Wellington Bridge and the junction of Sunday's Well Road and Shanakiel Road.  This system is in place to facilitate emergency repairs to be carried out to the quay wall.

Due to this restriction, the following traffic restrictions are in place in the Sunday's Well, Blarney Street, Blarney Road areas:-

1.   A one way system, for all inbound traffic, is in operation from Blarney Road, at it junction with Shanakiel Road, onto Blarney Street and onto Shandon Street.  All traffic that would normally access the city via Shanakiel Road, Strawberry Hill, Sunday's Well Road, and Wellington Bridge will be diverted onto this one way inbound system.

2.  A one way system, outbound for traffic from the city centre, or the east of the city, that would normally use Blarney Street, Blarney Road to access Hollyhill, Knocknaheeney, Clogheen, Kerry Pike and Blarney, is in place.

All this traffic will be diverted onto the North Mall and Sunday's Well Road as far as the Shanakiel Road, and will then be diverted up Shanakiel Road for Blarney Road.

This traffic will not be permitted to turn from Shandon Street onto Blarney Street.
