Tá scéim ullmhaithe ag Coimisinéir an Gharda, faoi Alt 11 d’Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla 2003.
The Garda Commissioner has prepared a scheme, under Section 11 of the Official Languages Act 2003.
Is é príomhchuspóir Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla 2003 (an tAcht) infhaighteacht níos fearr ar sheirbhísí poiblí trí Ghaeilge agus caighdeán níos airde sna seirbhísí sin a chinntiú.
Forálann Alt 11 den Acht le haghaidh ullmhú dréacht-scéime ag comhlacht poiblí, ina sonrófar na seirbhísí sin dá chuid a bhfuil sé i gceist a sholáthar:
i nGaeilge amháin,
i mBéarla amháin,
i nGaeilge agus i mBéarla araon.
Tá scéim ullmhaithe anois ar son an Gharda Síochána agus í deimhnithe ag an Aire Gnóthaí Pobail, Tuaithe agus Gaeltachta de réir an Achta.
Tiocfaidh an scéim in éifeacht ar an 28 Bealtaine 2009 agus fanfaidh sé i bhfeidhm go ceann tréimhse trí bliana ón dáta sin; tabharfar scéim nua isteach ag deireadh na tréimhse sin.
Foilseofar an scéim ar láithreán Gréasáin an Gharda agus beidh líon leordhóthanach cóipeanna den doiciméad ar fáil le scaipeadh ar bhaill an phobail trí oifigí na gCeannfort.
Cuimsíonn an scéim ceithre ghníomh ar fhichead mar aon le tréimhsí ama éagsúla lena gcur i gcrích. Is ar an gCoiste Feidhmithe um Beartas Gaeilge, a bheidh faoi cheannas an Leas-Choimsinéara, Straitéis agus Bainistiú ar Athrú, a bheidh an cúram an scéim a chur chun feidhme agus monatóireacht a dhéanamh uirthi.
Féadfar agallaimh theileafóin a dhéanamh ar an 28 Bealtaine 2009 idir a 2 agus a 6 tráthnóna. Chun agallamh a chur in áirithe iarrtar ort glao a chur ar Oifig Phreasa agus Chaidrimh Phoiblí an Gharda ríomhphost a chur chuig pressoffice@garda.ie
