Traffic congestion may be encountered during rush hour traffic on Friday the 20/3/09.
Gardaí are warning motorists that traffic congestion may be encountered during rush hour traffic on Friday morning, the 20th March 2009 in the vicinity of Fitzwilliam Square, O’Connell Street and arterial routes from Liffey Valley Shopping Centre and Airside Retail Park Swords to the City Centre.
An Garda Síochána are aware that a large group of taxi drivers plan to congregate at the following locations at 8am and to drive in convoy to Fitzwilliam Place and O'Connell Street from:
Airways Retail Park Swords –travelling on M1 or the old Swords road R132,
Liffey Valley Shopping Centre –travelling on N4 onto the North Quays.
It is estimated that they will leave the above 2 locations at around 8am and head for the Taxi Regulator's Office at Fitzwilliam Square.
It appears that a separate protest will also take place in the city centre in the vicinity of Parnell Square, O'Connell Street and College Green area. A separate group will drive in a continuous convoy up and down O’Connell Street.
Parking restrictions will be in pace in the Fitzwilliam Street, Fitzwilliam Place and Merrion Square areas until around lunchtime.
Gardaí will be monitoring the protest and would request the travelling public to be mindful of possible delays and plan accordingly.
These protests may lead to serious traffic disruption in the city on Friday 20th March 2009.
The protest is expected to finish by 2pm.
