A class of 56 which includes the first 12 women who joined An Garda Siochana in July 1959 have been invited to attend.
To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Women in An Garda Siochana 1959 – 2009, a number of official events will take place during 2009.
The first of these events will be held on 9th July, 2009. A Mass will be celebrated in the Garda Band Room in Garda Headquarters. A class of 56 which includes the first twelve (12) women who joined An Garda Siochana in July 1959 have been invited to attend.
Following the Mass at 1 p.m. in Garda Headquarters those attending will be invited to view a display of equipment from the Dublin Metropolitan Traffic Corps and an array of units from the Operational Support Units e.g. The Garda Mounted Unit and The Dog Unit.
Members of the media are invited to be present at Garda Headquarters from 1 to 1.30 pm and will be provided with a photo opportunity, brief interviews as appropriate.
